TRELAWNEY!!

Trelawney (Capital - Falmouth)

Trelawny is located on the north western end of Jamaica.  It is bordered on the east by St. Ann and on the south by St. Elizabeth and Manchester.  It is 874.64 sq. km with a population of approximately 72,000.  In 1770, Trelawny was formed from the eastern part of St. James.

Trelawny is best known or its sugar estates and sugar factories.  In days gone by sugar was the main income provider for Trelawny.  However, in the early 1900s a fall in the world market sugar price caused a decline in the sugar industry in Trelawny.   As a result, banana growing became the major agricultural enterprise.
